The story so far...
The story of MANTHOS OPTICAL in Ioannina, Greece is quite old and dates back to the beginning of the century.
Its founder Michael Manthos, pharmaceutical importer, opens the practice in Averof Street around 1900, in the same location where it’s still found today. At the same time, he is the representative for Western Greece of the well-known German optical house CARL ZEISS JENA which manufactures ophthalmic lenses, instruments, etc.
His son Matthaios improves and develops the Averof street practice. During the war, due to lack of ophthalmologists, he examines soldiers and civillians and is the first in Greece to import and fit prosthetic lenses for the casualties of the war era.
In the 60’s Christodoulos Manthos takes over the family business whose general manager he is still up to this day. The shop is radically refubrished and is fitted with the latest technical equipment.
C. Manthos instills a European approach in the business by bringing the latest and most fashionable trends in ophthalmic frames, sunglasses and other ophthalmic equipment.
In 1998 the 4th generation of the family, Maria + Matthaios, after extended studies in England, go into the family business and after a year the second practice is opened in C. Trikoupi St. The two practices combined bring MANTHOS OPTICAL into their 100th year of quality dispensing and launch the company into its second century in optics.
The year 2004 launches the company into its next big step: The creation of a sunglass shop in the Paralimnio Entertainment Park. MANTHOS SUNGLASSES is a practice that deals exclusively with sunglasses and is the only one of its kind in N/W Greece.
